On August 1, according to it home, mobile cellular network services are about to enter the subway tunnel in New York.
This week, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that it will launch a 10-year project to lay wireless connections for all 418 miles (about 672.71 kilometers) of underground tracks under the city. As part of the ongoing public-private partnership between the two organizations, transit wireless will build the necessary infrastructure and pay the resulting bill of $600million.
Transit wireless operates the existing underground WiFi network of MTA. It is also a subsidiary of Bai communications, which has completed similar projects in Toronto, Canada, Hong Kong, China and the rest of the world. The agreement will also allow transit wireless to provide WiFi to all 191 MTA ground stations and 21 Staten Island railway stations. The good news is that for New York users and tourists, the work of the project will not lead to additional disruption of subway services.
